Helping Fairfax County School Children
Collect for Kids is a public private partnership that provides local children from economically challenged families with the school supplies they need to begin the school year on equal footing with their peers.
It began in 2011 as a collaborative effort between Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS), Fairfax County government, several businesses and community groups.
Collect for Kids aims to ensure that every child in our county is prepared for school. Today, over 50,000 students in FCPS are eligible to receive Free and Reduced Priced Meals.
Our needs are as simple as A-B-C!
CAsh (used to purchase school supplies in bulk)
Backpacks (we seek a variety and have several collection points)
Calculators (used in “loan pools” at our high schools)
More than two dozen local organizations from across Fairfax County raise funds, purchase supplies and collect backpacks. This collective effort results in reaching more than 60% of children who are eligible for free and reduced price meals. Thank you Partners
In 2016 our partners served some 37,000 students compared with 16,000 in 2010 when we started. That’s 73% of the students in need.
